Disappointments can lead to success
January 1st. That has a beautiful sound to it. A new beginning. A new day. A chance to try once more. Trying again can be scary. Dark corners, spooky basements and locked closets can put you in protection mode. One decision will help you more than most to make this year a good one. Refuse to build walls that will protect you from disappointments. If you twist and turn your disappointments and look at them with fresh eyes, they can actually help you develop new inroads to victory. Failure is not a matter of circumstances but rather a matter of mental attitude. Be determined and never, never quit.
Happy New Year!
We have been conditioned to temper our excitement for the future. We often look at the future through the disappointments of our past. Tonight you may be smiling on the outside while feeling unsure on the inside. As we begin the New Year we can choose to look at the future with the anticipation we felt as a teen or young adult. The slate of mental attitude can be wiped clean. There is nothing in our past that forces a prediction of our future. We can be different and we can confidently trust God for new ideas as we go forward with joyful anticipation. Pray and believe that God will
Hey! That’s not what I meant!
I think it’s great when pastors connect the stable to the cross. Jesus came to save the world. The cross of Salvation is the climatic reason for the stable. However, we can’t forget the second way we are saved. To be fully saved and to have the life God intended for you, you need to imagine Jesus and our Heavenly Father bending over a cloud and yelling, “Hey! That’s not what I meant!” In her book of poems, God is No Fool, Lois Cheney wrote the following. Once I saw a little boy proudly show his mother a painting he’d made at school. She looked at it and turned
Biscuits and Prayer
One Sunday morning at a small southern church, the new pastor called on one of his older deacons to lead in the opening prayer. The deacon stood up, bowed his head and said, “Lord, I hate buttermilk.” The pastor opened one eye and wondered where this was going. The deacon continued, “Lord, I hate lard.” Now the pastor was totally perplexed. . The deacon continued, “Lord, I ain’t too crazy about plain flour. But after you mix ’em all together and bake ’em in a hot oven, I just love biscuits.” . He paused, “Lord help us to realize when life gets hard–when things come up that we don’t like–whenever
The Voice of Jesus
I’m sure many of you are already out and about. Christmas shopping is in full mode and we all are looking at our calendars and wondering how we will get it done before December 25th. Like many of you I think my children are wonderful. Jamie is a great guy. He loves the laughter of children and the forever memories that can be captured in a photo. Jamie is rarely concerned with money and instead tries to give his clients the “best deal” ever. He sees every family as a whole unit. When he sets his prices he considers that if they are too high Mom and Dad may not
The Best Deal of Black Friday
I never go shopping on Black Friday. I can’t take the crowds. Most people seem to have fun and may chat as they meander through the stores. I have trouble watching people who are on a mission or look as if they will be condemned to prison unless they find the best deal. This morning I watched the news and my heart broke. A man was killed over an early morning black Friday parking space. A child will look in a casket and wonder why Dad isn’t coming home simply because he got there first. Every Christmas from now on will have a scar. Every black Friday will bring tears.
