Stolen Moments
by Halie Kay Vermillion I sped into the parking lot three minutes before the bells rang. I grabbed my book bag from the passenger seat filled with granola bars and the textbook I meant to read but hadn’t touched since first semester. My plan was to dodge detention and rush through the door on time – if not totally together. It was a Friday like any other. I made it through my first few periods and gulped the cold coffee I frantically made just before I dragged out the door. I joked with my best friends, “I get it. Teachers are right. Senioritis is so real! I am SO

I Don’t Need to Understand, I just need to hold His hand.
In 1960 my parents were pastors at the First Assembly of God church in Marion, Indiana. One Saturday evening as Dad prayed over his Sunday Sermon, he felt a need to go into the Sanctuary. He walked down to the alter and fell on his knees to pray. There, he was overcome by the Spirit of God. God called him to go on a world wide Missionary trip. When Dad cried and asked how “How will this ever be possible? I don’t know how to even start the process. I don’t have the money. What will my church say?” God impressed him that “With God, all things are possible. Trust

A Tribute to Esther Magdalene Crocker – my dear mom.
My mom, Maggie, was born June 12, 1928 in Wilson, N.C. to Lula and Zola Craft. Zola couldn’t write his name yet he created a company during the depression that employed ten men. They were house painters and wallpaper hangers who were sought after by the wealthy. Lula had a little schooling but when God healed her at age 20, she became an Evangelist. Grams Craft took Maggie to hear a 15 year old black female evangelist who was leading a revival in their town. Maggie was only 8 years old and didn’t want to go hear another sermon. When she wouldn’t sit still in church, grandmother allowed her to

Magdalene Esther Crocker – My Mom
Two months ago I bought my mom this angel. It’s over a foot high and sits on top of a clothes closet in her room. The head of her bed is right across from it. When I brought it in and turned it on she put her hand on her chest, smiled wide and gasped, “Ohhh, You found my angel! I was hoping you would find her for me. She is beautiful ! Thank you for finding my angel !” She has spent a lot of time talking about and looking at her beautiful angel. For the last three years while mom lived in the home, I would end my

Church denies God’s power!
If you have witnessed miracles like I have or even just listened to others recount miraculous stories – one common thread will emerge. There will be one person in the story or listening to the story who is amazed or stunned by the hand of God. My dad told a true story about a church who was devastated to learn that a bar would be built just one block from their church property. The bar planned to have exotic dancers and other events that would change the street environment and possibly bother children and congregants after services. As the bar was being built the church held special prayer meetings asking
