Safe in His Arms
I was calm yet filled with excitement. Every week I set aside Wednesday to spend with Him. I am quiet. I feel peace. I don’t eat. I just think about my wonderful friend. Laughter is the best medicine
This silly picture was taken five or six years ago. Ron and I had put in long days on a big project. Weariness set in and he said something silly. I responded and we both laughed for a long time. He wanted to document our silliness with a picture. Often the best solution for a problem or the best medicine for a nagging emotion is to laugh. Laugh big and hearty. Laugh with your whole body. I began storing Christmas decorations today. It’s a boring chore and can leave me feeling “the year end” let down. Putting away the designs of the holiday brings all kinds of good and bad images to mind. It’s painful to recall the deaths we’ve experienced, accidents, hard work and even broken relationships. Yesterday Ron and I drove 35 miles to have breakfast – alone. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a cozy feel and a yummy breakfast buffet. We chatted about our goals for the New Year and our dreams for the future. He talked about concrete ideas and I (of course) became dramatic and talked about lofty goals, emotions and relationships. Have you been hurt by someone you love or admire? I have. Many times. This year however, I choose to believe the best in others. Some may continue to disappoint me, but some may surprise me and reveal a nugget of character, kindness or even love. We are often disappointed in our heroes, our mentors and even our Christian friends. It’s hard to believe that anyone can be trusted. Yes, we are all flawed – but probably not to the extent that we fear. Believe the best in others and you give them a safe place to show you how good they can be. Love them as Christ would and
