Do you have a place in your life that fills you with energy, creativity or a feeling of well being?

Is there a place that brings you down every time you walk through the doorway?

Mood is an unseen enemy in our lives.  Like a virus it sneaks into unprotected parts of our brain and can sabotage our creativity and our success.

Every home has a “mood setter”.  It’s usually a person of authority or management and they have the power to infect the entire household with negative or unproductive feelings.  If an abuser lives in the house he/she will infect everyone and will prevent success from all those that live in the home.  If the authority figure is lazy and unproductive, his/her mood will influence others in the home or may cause arguments with the productive leader and that will result in even more negative overtones.

Even homes that seem happy to outsiders can have hidden issues with mood.  The saying, “If mom ain’t happy, no one is happy!” comes from homes that have been infected with negative mood swings.

The best thing you can do for those you love is to make sure your home is filled with positive moods.  It’s important to teach your children to look at their faults so they can change them.  However, it’s also important not to let their mood slip into a negative mode.  Play the positive game by eliminating hot button words like slob, stupid, idiot, jerk, and replace them with positive inspiring thoughts.  “We are on a quest to be the best we can be.  We may fail at times but we aren’t going to stop trying.”

Remember mom and dad – you are examples.  Your children will never succeed at changing their moods or their lives unless you show them how.  That means you must change first.

I love my parents.  They helped me become my best.  However, when dementia set in and they gave up on life – their home became a put down.  We began to realize that every visit made the entire family feel lethargic and sad.  Because my parents were leaders and our authority figures – when we visited we became like them.  We felt down, depressed and sleepy.

Moods are an absolute that changes every home and every business in the world.  Make sure your home is filled with inspiring, uplifting and creative moods.
