The political machine can make you feel like the world will come to an end by tomorrow afternoon. Friends of mine have expressed their fears more and more.
“I can’t trust anyone. I don’t trust the public school system. I don’t trust my boss and I’m sure my husband’s boss of 20 years is trying to demote him. I’m afraid my pastor isn’t preaching the truth and I’m worried about our safety in America. Every time I drive to the store I worry and pray that we won’t be attacked by Isis or some manic. I’m afraid all the time. I don’t know what to do.”
First I gave my friend a hug and an understanding smile. Next I took her hand and looked into her eyes. “I understand. I feel it too. We are afraid because we know there is no where to hide and no amount of money that will ever make our lives safe. There is nothing in our life that is totally secure. Life will change and not always for the better. No one goes through life without trouble. We all experience it and the only surprise is how much and when.”
I sighed and looked up. I wish Jesus could shine a spotlight on my heart and fill it to capacity with peace and wisdom. “The only thing you can ever truly count on is that God loves you more than the deepest sea and higher than the bluest sky. You can be positive that He walks beside you. He will turn Heaven and Earth to protect, save and cherish his children. Your only security – the only safe bet – lies in Jesus Christ.”
Tears rolled down her cheeks and splashed on her blouse. Tears flooded my eyes as well. “You know what I do? Every day I say the same phrase over and over. Jesus loves me and nothing can happen to me without his permission. Satan is not in control. God is in control. If I am his child and if He allows it – then it must be because He knows I can take it.”
We may have to suffer some here on earth but God has promised that He will make everything right. On Earth He will walk beside you and give you strength, comfort and peace – no matter what circumstances you face. In Heaven He will reward us and will correct every injustice. The moment you step through those pearly gates, you will have no ties to earth or it’s problems. You will live in luxury from that moment on. What a day that will be!
I have teased about entering Heaven and running to Jesus with a list of “why” questions. Why did this happen? Why didn’t you show up there? Why were you silent through that problem?
Yet, the wonderful reality is that I will run to Jesus but only to hug the dearest friend I’ve ever known. I’ll wrap my arms around the person I’ve loved since I was six-years-old and I’ll finally be able to feel him hug me back. I won’t care about the trials, the abuse, the betrayals, the rejections, the pain or the sorrow. All I’ll care about is that I made it. I’m home. I’m loved. My family is there and I have all of eternity to enjoy every good thing God has prepared for me.
That is only true security we have! That my friend is the best investment you will ever make. While everyone else is working on the election, or fretting about the economy or saving for retirement – I have only one question for you.
Are you prepared for your Heavenly reunion? If you are, then there’s no reason to be afraid.
